Swimming 101
πβοΈ The Four Competitive Swimming Strokes π
Swimming has four primary strokes: Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly. Each has its own unique style, rules, and challenges! πβοΈπ₯
πβοΈ Freestyle (a.k.a. "The Crawl") π¨
βοΈ Swimmers can use any strokeβbut the crawl is the fastest!
βοΈ Arms alternate over the water, paired with a continuous flutter kick.
βοΈ Flip turns allowed, but must touch the wall before turning.
βοΈ Fast, efficient, and commonly used in long-distance races!
πβοΈ Backstroke (Swimming in Reverse!) π
βοΈ Swimmers stay on their back with an alternating arm motion & flutter kick.
βοΈ Flip turns allowed! Swimmers may rotate to their stomach before turning.
βοΈ The race must start & finish on the back.
βοΈ Think of it as "freestyle but upside down!"
πΈ Breaststroke (The Frog Kick!) π
βοΈ Both arms move simultaneously in a heart-shaped motion.
βοΈ The frog kick is key! Legs move in a circular motion.
βοΈ Two-hand touch required at the wall for turns & the finish.
βοΈ Slower than other strokes but all about technique & control!
π¦ Butterfly (The Most Beautiful Stroke!) π
βοΈ Arms move together over the water, creating a powerful, rhythmic motion.
βοΈ The dolphin kick makes it look like swimmers are "flying" through the water!
βοΈ Two-hand touch required at turns & the finish.
βοΈ One of the most challenging strokes, but when done right, it's a showstopper!
π Which stroke is YOUR favorite?! Get ready to dive in, perfect your technique, and race your best this season! ππ₯
